Like many other people all over the world, do you also love holidays? One of the most awaited holidays is the thanksgiving holiday. This holiday is celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November, especially in the United States and Canada. The purpose of its celebration is to show gratitude and thanks for all the blessings of the previous year. If we go back in the history of thanksgiving it started in 1621 when the Plymouth colony in Massachusetts held a feast to celebrate a successful harvest.  In 1863, during the Civil War, President Abraham Lincoln declared the last Thursday in November as a national day of Thanksgiving. Since then, Thanksgiving has been celebrated annually on that day.

Thanksgiving from the past till now has been the time for a family gathering, enjoyment, and a festival of joy and celebration. On this occasion, there are a lot of traditional foods that are served and are considered mandatory for this festival. The traditional thanksgiving meal includes turkey, stuffing, gravy, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce, and pumpkin pie. Other foods that are also served on the day are ham, and roast beef as well as a variety of vegetables and salads.

In addition to the traditional food, people enjoy the festival by watching Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and an American football game. People celebrate this day mostly with their family and friends, this is the time for reflecting on the blessings of the past year, and to give thanks for the people and things we hold dear. On thanksgiving all the family gather around the table, reunite and enjoy each other’s company.
